Rance Buss

Rance Buss, CPA, is a partner at Weaver and serves as the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Services Market Leader, bringing more than 30 years of extensive experience in employee benefit plan audits. Nationally recognized for his deep technical knowledge and commitment to excellence, Rance is a trusted advisor to plan sponsors and engagement teams across the firm. As a member of Weaver’s employee benefit plan audit leadership team, he oversees strategic growth and marketing initiatives for the practice.

Rance has worked on hundreds of employee benefit plan engagements for Fortune 500/1000 companies, privately held businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Rance also provides consulting services on plan compliance, internal controls, IRS/DOL audit support and correction methodologies for significant or complex plan issues. He consults on a wide range of complex topics including plan mergers and terminations, investment reporting, fiduciary violations and delinquent participant contributions.

A certified public accountant (CPA) in Texas, Rance currently serves on the the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Benefit Plans Accounting, Auditing and Regulatory Update Conference Committee and the SouthWest Benefits Association (SWBA) Board of Directors Executive Committee (in which he was president in 2022). His previous leadership roles include serving on the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center Executive Committee from 2013–2016 and the the AICPA/DOL SECURE Act and 403(b) Audit Task Forces.

A frequent national speaker, Rance presents at AICPA conferences, state CPA society ERISA events, and through organizations such as the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA), the Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA), and the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS). His ongoing national prominence ensures Weaver clients are among the first to understand emerging trends and regulatory developments. He earned a Master of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
