Detailed Description of Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 36
00:00:00
Leanne: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuel Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. It’s been a while and we’ve had some technical glitches, but we’re back and hopefully we will have new vlogs almost every week going forward.
This week, we wanted to introduce you to another fantastic member of our team and that is Christie Smith. Christie, welcome to the vlog. Can you tell us how long you’ve been at Weaver and your favorite part about being here?
00:00:27
Christie: Well, hello everyone. I joined Weaver back in March of 2023, and probably my favorite thing about working on the team is you just never really get bored in fuel tax. There’s always something new and different to learn and figure out.
00:00:51
Emilda: I would agree with that, Christie. I think motor fuel is always changing, and it keeps us on our toes.
00:00:57
Christie: Yes, it does.
00:00:59
Emilda: And it’s always exciting, right?
00:01:02
Christie: Sure. (laughter) Yes it is.
00:01:08
Emilda: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you actually got into motor fuel.
00:01:14
Christie: Well, my background was not originally in tax. I worked at a credit union and worked my way up from an account rep to branch manager there. I did a brief stint in public accounting, and then I went back into industry and did everything again from account representative all the way up to accounts payable manager. Then all of a sudden, my boss, who was the controller at the time, came to me out of the blue one day and asked me if I had ever thought about getting into fuel tax. Who thinks about getting into fuel tax, right?
00:01:59
Leanne: That is very, very true.
00:02:03
Christie: So, I said no, but I would certainly be willing to learn. And those were my famous last words. That was in 2011. I worked in industry some more, and now I am learning to navigate the consulting side and I’m loving it.
00:02:26
Kelly: Awesome. Well, other than fuel tax, what is your favorite thing to do with your free time?
00:02:34
Christie: Actually, I’m pretty boring. Reading is my hobby. I love to read, whether it’s articles on the internet or books. I love ebooks, but my favorite is still to actually hold the book in my hand and flip the pages, because there’s nothing like it.
00:02:54
Kelly: Okay, we might need to start like a book exchange, like mailing books back and forth, Christie.
00:02:58
Christie: Definitely.
00:02:59
Kelly: I love that. Well, that was this week’s Motor Fuel Tax Minute. Like Leanne said, we hope to get more out to you shortly. And thank you again, Christie, for taking time to join us today.
00:03:10
Christie: Thank you
