Canadian CFR and BC-LCFS Regulatory Compliance

With the implementation of the Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) beginning in 2022, Canada added significant clean fuel requirements to the existing British Columbia Low Carbon Fuels Act (BC-LCFS). Other provinces are also implementing increasingly ambitious renewable fuel volume mandates. Both requirements recognize sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as a compliance-generating fuel. The CFR awards the same credits as though the SAF were low-carbon diesel, while the BC-LCFS introduces debits generated by fossil jet fuel, growing to a 10% reduction requirement in 2030. In addition, the BC-LCFS introduces minimum SAF volume percentage requirements beginning with 1% of jet fuel in 2028, 2% in 2029 and 3% in 2030.
