Detailed Description of Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 116
00:00:00
Leanne: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. As everybody knows by now, Weaver is attending the FTA’s annual motor fuel tax conference.
00:00:10
Leanne: It is the 100th-year celebration. And as always, we are sponsoring karaoke. But in addition to seeing everyone at karaoke, we hope to see you at a couple of panels. Kelly, which one are you speaking on?
00:00:22
Kelly: I’m going to actually be speaking with my dear friend. You might have seen me do some webinars with Bob Donnellan from IGEN and a couple of industry folks.
00:00:30
Kelly: And we’re actually going to be talking about how difficult the market is right now for motor fuel tax groups. Between the silver tsunami and not as many people wanting to get into motor fuel tax, we’ve talked numerous times about how it tends to be a little bit of a niche field that not many people know about.
00:00:46
Kelly: And, of course, the growing demands, like, Leanne, you’ve done a lot of work in the alternative fuel area, and you know they’re constantly coming up with new and creative things that make things a little more complicated for tax departments.
00:00:57
Kelly: And with the increase in technology, that’s increasing audits and notices. As we’re seeing the tax team shrink down, we’re also seeing more demand on the tax team in general. It should be a fun panel. And I believe you’re also potentially speaking.
00:01:12
Leanne: Yes. I am. I was going to say your panel sounds really interesting, so, hopefully, it does not conflict with mine.
00:01:18
Leanne: And I’ll be speaking on one about refunds, exemptions, and credits and how difficult it is to get it right the first time. It sounds so straightforward. We’ll just file this tax return for a refund, but it’s just never as simple as it sounds. I’m pretty sure there’s no overlap between our two panels, and we look forward to seeing everybody there.
00:01:38
Kelly: Excellent. Well, I think it’ll be a good time. Definitely lots of interesting topics.
00:01:43
Kelly: I’m glad the FTA is shaking things up again and giving us some new things to talk about because, like we said, new things are coming up all the time. That is this week’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute. Thank you for joining us.
