Detailed Description of Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 25
00:00:00
Kelly: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuel Tax Minute, where we talk all things motor fuels. Joining us today is Tashiana Briggs. She is one of Weavers income tax senior managers. Let’s start off, Tashiana, tell us a little bit about yourself.
00:00:16
Tashiana: Hi, ladies. Glad to be on the call with you guys. My name is Tashiana Briggs, as Kelly said, and I’ve been with Weaver for 15 years. I started as an intern from Stephen F Austin State University, and my official date for 15 years will be in August. I’ve done federal and state income tax for the past 15 years with an emphasis on manufacturing, distribution and professional services.
00:00:45
Emilda: Great. Tashiana, the team knows that I’ve had an opportunity to work with you since I joined Weaver almost two years ago, and it’s been a great experience. Since we’re talking about motor fuels, why don’t you just give us a little bit of history with motor fuels?
00:01:02
Tashiana: Sure. I am so glad you guys are here at Weaver. You guys have this tremendous amount of knowledge between the three of you and you make my life a whole lot easier, especially with the clients that I have.
Before you guys joined Weaver, I was working with another partner and it was just really me and him helping clients register for motor fuels, whether it was for federal purposes with their 637 registrations or if it was state. I actually had this huge handbook for states with all the different rules for motor fuels such as on when you had to register and when you didn’t have to register. And we also helped with the biofuels blenders credit as well.
00:01:39
Leanne: So now that you’re an adjunct member of the motor fuels group, as well as the income tax group, how do you work with clients now when it comes to motor fuels?
00:01:50
Tashiana: I actually have a lot of clients who are still brokers, whether it’s in oil and gas or they’re dealing in petrochemicals or just chemicals as well. They are mainly traders, so they’re buying and selling the fuel, so I’ll get with you guys to help my clients with their 720 filings and 637 registrations. Additionally, as we all know, the superfund has come along this year, and I help with figuring out what they need to do with the superfunds.
In summary, I deal with the traders, and I make sure to get on calls with them, understand their business and filing their income tax returns and for federal and state. But then also thinking about, I need to get with the excise tax group at Weaver and make sure that my client is doing everything that they need to do for fuels tax as well. I try to work hand-in-hand with you guys on different clients, bringing in new clients and just making sure that we’re all on the same page so that our clients are filing everywhere that they need to file, whether it is for income tax or for excise tax as well.
00:02:51
Leanne: Thanks, Tashiana. That’s great and like you say, we love working with you, we love working together. So anyone out there who’s looking for somebody new in income tax or currently with Weaver for Motor Fuels, reach out to Tashiana and she can help you with your income tax as well. She’s got a great understanding of the business.
That’s this week’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute. Join us next time.
