Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Fuel Production Modeling Services

To participate in federal and state lower carbon fuels programs, companies must undertake a formal life cycle analysis to assess the overall greenhouse gas impacts associated with their process or products. This information is also needed to qualify for certain tax credits made available as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

We assist businesses with life cycle modeling and analysis and offer advising on data, documentation, and other information required for pathway development under these and other regulatory programs:

• The Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS),
• The California Air Resource Board’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS),
• Environmental and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR)

These regulations require companies to determine fuel carbon intensity based on variations of the Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model. We work with businesses to prepare modeling, including the development of energy and emissions factors for inputs (such as proprietary catalysts) that may not be adequately covered in the existing GREET model. We review modeling and other pathway application materials and coordinate your company’s submission to the applicable regulatory agency.

Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Advisory Services

As your company works to identify and quantify direct and indirect carbon emissions associated with its operations, we offer support for regulatory reporting requirements such as Title 40, Part 98, Subparts C and W of the Code of Federal Regulations, commonly referred to as the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) or voluntary reporting initiatives (e.g., Greenhouse Gas Protocol, etc.). We assist with development of comprehensive inventories of emission sources across the Company’s operations. Once all emissions sources have been identified, we assist with quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions associated with each source in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements or voluntary framework to ensure accuracy of emission data disclosures.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Grant Advisory Services

We advise and assist with preparation of grant applications, supporting documentation, and periodic reports (e.g., concept papers, lifecycle analysis, risk management plans, etc.) submitted in relation to Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA) posted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) related to Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) or Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) grants issued under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (aka Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)) or Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
