Giving Back: A Look Inside the Weaver Private Foundation – Ronald McDonald House

The Weaver Private Foundation is dedicated to creating a relationship between our employees and the communities in which we work and live. We encourage a workplace culture of outreach, and one of the Foundation’s goals is to support Weaver employees in their personal volunteer efforts. So, twice a year, we give our employees the opportunity to apply for contributions to an organization they’re involved with. In Spring 2017, the Foundation donated $20,500 to 12 different organizations in support of our employees and their community involvement efforts. Below we highlight one of these organizations, Ronald McDonald House.
Ronald McDonald House Houston – Houston, TX
Nominated by Victoria Tidwell and Elizabeth Bunk
The Ronald McDonald House Houston seeks to provide a home away from home for families of seriously ill children traveling to Houston for medical treatment. The House not only offers families a safe place to stay where they can be close to their loved ones, but it also provides meals, laundry facilities and opportunities to connect with other families enduring similar situations, all to help make their lives a little easier during these trying times. The Ronald McDonald House Houston includes:
- A 50 bedroom Holcombe House that is undergoing expansion
- 4 family rooms and a 20 bedroom house at Texas Children’s Hospital
- A 14 bedroom house inside Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital
- A family room and 2 bedrooms in MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital
- A “Cookie Corner” at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus in West Houston
Victoria Tidwell, Administrative Assistant at Weaver, tells us, “The decision to get involved and give back to the community through the Ronald McDonald House Houston organization was an easy one to make, as I love kids and personally know how devastating a serious health diagnosis, such as cancer, can be to an individual and their family, after having experienced it firsthand with my mother. Little did I know at the time, though, how quickly I would fall in love with the kids and the House, and that it would forever change my life. I became a volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House to help people, but in the end, I’ve found that these kids and their families have helped and taught me more than I could ever hope to do for them.”
