COVID-19 and Weaver's Work Arrangements + Important Tax Update for Clients
Given the COVID-19 pandemic and its ongoing impact, Weaver is taking the precautions necessary to help our employees and their families stay healthy and safe.
The great news is that we are open for business, and we’re here for you whether remotely or in the office. We are very busy continuing to deliver services and meet deadlines for our clients, which remains Weaver’s top priority.
We recently gave all of our employees the option to work remotely if they wanted to, and many have decided to do it. Our IT environment enables our team members to seamlessly work from remote locations. We remain available to you as always.
We are also working to limit the amount of visitors to our offices. As such, we encourage all Weaver clients to submit documents electronically. We ask this not only to reduce the number of people in our offices but also out of concern that mail or attempted deliveries may be delayed for reasons beyond our control. If you need to drop off documents to us, please coordinate with your Weaver team members.
While Weaver’s offices currently remain open, we believe these steps are critical protection measures for all of our team members and their families, while doing our part to help minimize the spread of the virus.
Important update for our tax clients:
In response to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Treasury Secretary announced this afternoon that the 2019 tax filing deadline remains April 15. However, they will grant payment relief for 90 days with no payment penalties or interest if the taxpayer is: (1) an individual who owes less than $1 million; or (2) a corporation that owes less than $10 million.
The key takeaway from this is that we need to move forward with filings, as taxpayers could be subject to penalties if they do not file by April 15.
There are still many things up in the air right now. For example, at this time, we are not sure how 2020 estimated taxes will be handled. For advice on your specific circumstance, contact your Weaver engagement team. In the meantime, we continue to move full-steam ahead to meet these filing deadlines for our clients.
In closing, safety and good health are of concern to all of us, and on behalf of the entire team at Weaver, we thank you for your support and understanding. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and update you as needed. Also, to help you and your company navigate these challenging times, we’ve developed several thought leadership resources. We will keep them coming, and we’re here to help.
