Giving Back: A Look Inside the Weaver Private Foundation – The Birthday Party Project

Weaver Private Foundation is dedicated to creating a relationship between our employees and the communities in which we work and live. At Weaver, we encourage and enable our employees to drive positive change in local communities by giving them the opportunity to apply for contributions to an organization in which they are involved.
In spring 2018, the Foundation donated $19,500 to 19 different organizations in support of our employees and their community involvement efforts. The Birthday Party Project, a not-for-profit that brings joy to homeless children by hosting monthly birthday bashes at homeless and transitional living facilities across the country, received funds this spring thanks to Weaver employee Michael Henthorn, Corporate Travel Manager, who nominated them.
“I assist with planning birthday parties at various shelters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” Michael shares. “This includes playing games, making crafts, and of course having cake and ice cream for some children who may have never celebrated a birthday.”
The Birthday Party Project started in 2012 in Dallas with the goal of celebrating the birthday of every homeless child in Texas. Today, the organization has expanded across the United States celebrating 6,000 birthdays with 40,000 kids in attendance. Volunteers called “birthday enthusiasts” visit homeless and transitional facilities across the country to celebrate the children’s birthdays that fall in that month.
“This organization does a great job of serving children who need a little joy and a moment to escape at a difficult time in their lives,” Michael says.
