Weaver Volunteers Support School Recovery Efforts in Altadena, California, Following Eaton Fire

HOUSTON (July 7, 2026) — Weaver, a national accounting and advisory firm, joined disaster relief nonprofit All Hands & Hearts and community partners to help transform Odyssey Charter School South (OCS South) in Altadena, California, following the devastating Eaton Fire in 2025.

Over the course of the two-day project, 33 Weaver volunteers and the All Hands & Hearts team contributed more than 700 combined service hours to revitalize the campus and create a welcoming environment for the 185 students served by OCS South. Volunteer efforts included refreshing outdoor play and gathering spaces, building lending libraries, donating nearly 300 books, planting greenery and painting murals throughout the campus. The group also assembled scooters, bikes and other play equipment. The project culminated in a campus unveiling celebration attended by students, families, educators and community supporters.

“Seeing our people come together in support of OCS South has been inspiring,” said John Mackel, CEO and managing partner of Weaver. “This project reflects the impact that can be made when organizations, volunteers and community leaders work toward a common goal. We are grateful for the opportunity to support students, educators and families as they continue rebuilding and looking ahead.”

The effort was further supported by a $105,000 contribution from the Weaver Private Foundation, reinforcing Weaver’s commitment to helping communities recover and thrive following times of adversity.

“One of the things that stood out throughout this project was how deeply people care about this school and the students it serves,” said Michael Mischloney, Weaver Foundation board member. “Seeing students return to a campus that reflects the care and investment of so many people was a powerful reminder of how recovery takes shape over time.”

OCS South relocated to a new long-term campus in Altadena, California, following the Eaton Fire and has worked to reestablish stability for students and families affected by displacement. The campus improvement project was designed to create opportunities for movement, learning, creativity and community engagement while helping restore a sense of pride throughout the school environment.

The project brought together volunteers from Weaver, leadership from OCS South, All Hands & Hearts, local artists including 24LA and community businesses including Prime Pizza, each contributing to the Altadena community’s ongoing recovery.
