Current Risk within Capital Projects

Higher education institutions face construction challenges including rising costs due to inflation and supply chain issues, aging infrastructure, increased focus on sustainability, efficiency, and the need to adapt to evolving student and faculty needs. Our discussion will include discussions on risks included in capital projects, practical ways to establish a risk management and monitoring plan for all types of capital projects. We will also examine common contract types, the risks included with each type of construction contact and common errors that are made by contractors when billing owners.

After attending this session the attendee will be able to:

• Understand current risks that are inherent within capital project plans.
• Understand the different risks inherent in each type of construction delivery method.
• Design a risk mitigation plan associated with each type of construction delivery method, as well as understand common contract and billing errors made by contractors.
