Detailed Description of Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 100
00:00:00
Leanne: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. You’ll see it’s a busy room today and that’s because we’re celebrating.
This is our 100th episode. We’d like to say thank you to everybody who has watched us, supported us, commented, suggested ideas and please keep watching.
I’m delighted to be joined by the entire fuels tax team, as well as Sean Muller, Partner-in-Charge of Specialty Tax, and John Mackel, Weaver’s CEO.
Sean, you’ve been with us since the beginning. You’ve reviewed every single episode.
00:00:31
Sean: Uh-huh.
00:00:32
Leanne: I think you’re creeping up on us with your own The Tax Navigator.
00:00:35
Sean: Sure. I’m going to try to catch you.
By the way, you are my inspiration to go and do it all. I haven’t taken the videos in Australia or at a concert like you guys zipped up for the fun ones, and I’m not as creative with the back-to-basics dance moves that Kelly does.
But, yeah, you’ve been my inspiration, and I’m going to try to catch you guys.
00:00:53
Leanne: Well, we’re going to keep going so be here for the 500th.
00:00:55
Sean: All right. Yeah, there we go. I’ll be there.
00:00:59
Leanne: John, it’s been 100 episodes. Do you have a favorite?
00:01:03
John: So I actually went back and watched them over the weekend, and my favorite is the first one only because you guys had the foresight and the guts to do it. It’s not easy to put yourself out there as a subject matter expert, and then the social media aspect of building on it I think is great.
And then I love the episodes like number 51 where Sean joined to really talk about the specialty tax groups. Robert Henry joined an earlier episode to talk about everything on the provision side.
So not only have you built something for yourself, you’ve built a platform for the firm that other professionals can come in and build off of. And so, it’s just been a real asset to the firm internally and externally, and look at this team you’ve built as part of it. I think it’s all just remarkable and great.
00:01:48
Leanne: Well, thank you. Well, speaking of experienced professionals, as our CEO, so is there anything exciting happening at Weaver that you want all of our viewers to know about?
00:01:58
John: Yeah, I think it’s a super exciting time. So first of all, I’m starting my 11th year as the CEO of the firm. I’m not near as famous as Sean and Leanne. They’ve done a great job of building their platforms out, but where we’ve really just focused on building our audit, tax and advisory practices throughout Texas and California and the Northeast, especially in New York.
Now you’re seeing, like, all of these entrepreneurial partners and directors start to really look at filling in the map, adding some new locations. Sean recently helped one of the partners in his group open up our office in Philadelphia.
Leanne has been helping me open up our office in Denver, which should be opening up in the fall. We’ll have three partners in that market. We’re working on opening up an office in San Francisco. We have a partner relocating from L.A. to San Fran, looking at somewhere around January of 2026. And then we have plans for South Florida in summer of 2026, looking to relocate two partners there.
So, there’s just a lot going on. There’s so many opportunities. We’re growing the heck out of our financial services and energy practices, really doing a good job of advisory keeping up and growing their practices and then specialty groups that Sean has built.
I’m really excited about the next few years. We’ve got to continue to figure out AI and our platforms around there. But the people side of our business has never been stronger.
00:03:25
Leanne: Well, thank you, John, and watch this space for all these new offices opening up.
You’ll see that some of our team members are holding our Maizey the Unicorn. The first five people to comment with their favorite episode, just like John gave us his, will win a Maizey. Thank you and look for the next 100.
