Leanne: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. I think this is the second to last in our Power of Attorney series. Right, Kelly? This time let’s talk a little bit about that column for tax periods. What do people need to know about that?

Kelly: Well, the column is pretty broad to be honest. It gives you a lot of leeway. You can list a pretty lengthy amount of time. The one thing that I think people don’t really consider is it only goes out three years from December 31st of the year that you file. So just to give an example, if I file a Power of Attorney for December 31st, 2024, I only have that Power of Attorney for three years in the future. After that, I’d have to submit a new Power of Attorney. If I try to put 2048 and I try to contact the IRS at that point — oh goodness, that would be a long time to be working — they will not honor that Power of Attorney at that point of time because it exceeds that three-year limitation. It’s just another thing to keep in mind, maybe something to keep on your calendar. So, if you’re talking to the IRS on behalf of a company or if you work for the company, just make sure you keep that up to date every three years.
