Detailed Description of Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 94
00:00:00
Leanne: Welcome to Weaver’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute, the vlog where we talk all things motor fuel. Over the past few episodes, we’ve talked a lot about software and I’ve learned a lot.
Kelly, I’m ready to implement some software. Who does that?
00:00:13
Kelly: Well, I think the obvious answer for both of us would be Weaver. We would love to help you. We have a lot of knowledge. We’re familiar with all the softwares. We get along with those guys. We are excited to work with you.
But I will say, sometimes internally, you have a strong resource who loves IT, they worked on your old software. Maybe that is the person that makes sense. What I will warn, a lot of companies do not designate that resource for the implementation only, and that can set you up for failure. Because if you have a resource who’s trying to do 20th returns, trying to do 25th, trying to do 30th, answering customer questions, trying to register, doing a million things at once, they cannot focus on this implementation.
It takes full focus. You need someone sitting there day in, day out, testing, also championing the product. Because I will say I’ve seen a lot of software implementations go beautifully and the software is great, but if your team is not using it, that software implementation failed.
So, you need a champion, someone who can help, and that can also be Weaver. We’re very good at getting people comfortable with softwares and kind of learning to navigate through them. Obviously, I love sharing my knowledge. You might have to put time limits on me sharing my knowledge.
00:01:23
Leanne: But these software implementations take time, so no time limit is necessary?
00:01:27
Kelly: Oh, there you go. Absolutely, absolutely. And don’t just think of the implementation. That resource is not done once the implementation is done.
You now have maintenance. You now might have new activity, new products. That resource will be kept busy. So just because the implementation is done, make sure you take into account the maintenance that’s also involved, whether you use consultants like us here at Weaver. Happy to help, love helping. Or if you have a strong resource, just figure out ways to free them up.
00:01:57
Leanne: Well, thank you, Kelly. And as she said, in all seriousness, this is an area in which we can assist. If you’re looking to switch software or just get into software, please do reach out.
We can assist with the implementation. It is incredibly time-consuming. All joking aside, you really would need a dedicated resource within your own team in order to do that.
And that was this week’s Motor Fuels Tax Minute.
