System conversions in higher education are never just about software — they’re about transforming how an institution functions. In this episode of Weaver: Beyond the Numbers, hosts Daniel Graves and Dallas Dugger talk with Angela Hodge, vice chancellor of business services at Austin Community College (ACC). Angela shares her experience leading a successful enterprise resource planning (ERP) transformation, from planning and data migration to team management and outcome measurement.
Key Points:
-
- Data migration is the hardest lift — start cleaning early.
- Change management is critical to user adoption.
- ERP systems can cut costs and improve transparency.
When ACC realized its outdated technology was slowing progress, leadership empowered Angela to lead a major ERP overhaul. The goal: simplify financial reporting, reduce manual processes and improve operational transparency. Angela’s team worked through the dual challenge of maintaining daily operations while implementing a new system.
Data migration was one of the most complex aspects of the project. Years of poorly controlled data entry in the legacy system meant extensive data cleansing was required before anything could be transferred. Integration with existing systems added another layer of technical difficulty, but internal and vendor teams worked from day one to ensure a seamless transition. “Clean your data early — even if you don’t have a vendor yet. That’s the foundation for success,” explained Angela.
Equally important was change management. ACC engaged users through regular meetings, encouraging feedback and offering transparency throughout the rollout. This strategy significantly boosted employee adoption. Angela reports that post-implementation outcomes are encouraging. Fewer employees are now needed to run the system, resulting in measurable cost savings. Faculty and staff report better access to timely information, making processes more efficient and transparent.
